Picks - Week 14

That giant “sucking” sound you hear is what’s left over from last week’s picks. One win and four losses and only one, the Cincy game, can I blame Vegas for. The effort here will be to avoid another “crash and burn.”

BUFFALO @ KANSAS CITY +1

The BILLS seem injury prone as almost every position is manned by a junior varsity player and explains their lack of offensive production and horrible defense. The CHIEFS are not much better and were blown out by a resurging Denver who ran all over the yard on them, plus Matt Cassel was so bad he was asked to sit down late in the game. However, KANSAS CITY is at home and BUFFALO struggles even more when on the road and don’t count on Cassel to have a repeat performance of his worst game as a CHIEF but to bounce back. He was not happy being benched and will be focused.

PICK: KC.

GREEN BAY @ CHICAGO +3

The PACK is back and playing some of the best ball in the league. Their “O” line which has now been together (for a change) for more than a week is protecting Aaron Rogers and he is even more on fire than he has been. Also the “D” is adapting to the 3-4 finally and the defensive play calling has been superb. The BEARS, to quote Denny Green, “are who we thought they were” and not very good on either side of the ball. No running game, dropped passes, and desperate throws leading to picks by Jay Cutler have Lovie on the hot seat.

PICK: BAY of GREEN. Suddenly the talking heads are beginning to murmur Super Bowl again.

SAN DIEGO @ DALLAS -3

A must watch! I’ll go with the team that has the hot hand and is playing better than anyone in the AFC right now, the CHARGERS. The COWBOYS are home but in DALLAS, SAN DIEGO, or in Cancun give me Phillip Rivers. Not that Romo is playing badly, but Rivers is more consistent, has better receivers and a better defense to get him the ball. If the game should come down to a field goal contest the CHARGERS have a definite edge as well.

PICK: CHARGERS.

PHILADELPHIA @ NY GIANTS -1

The EAGLES blew out a Falcons team that is admittedly hurting but by 34 to 7 in Atlanta’s house. Meanwhile, in a division tilt, the GIANTS were solidly besting Dallas 31 to 24. NEW YORK played excellent run defense but allowed Romo to complete 75% of his 55 pitches for 392 yards and 3 TDs and gave up 424 yards in total offense to the visitors. This lack of a pass rush and pass defense will not be lost on PHILLY’S coaching staff. Once again the GIANTS showed a weakness in the running game. This is an important division game but, given the choice, McNabb and DeSean Jackson, who is back, should find their way into your fantasy lineup.

PICK: “IGGLES.”

ARIZONA @ SAN FRANCISCO +3

The CARDS ran away and hid from the 10 and 1 VIKINGS with a combination of the usual Kurt Warner and the best defensive scheme I’ve seen from ARIZONA. They barely blitzed rushing 4 and when called for 3 leaving a crowd back in man pass coverage and backers to stuff the run when Adrian Peterson had the ball. AD was held to 19 yards on 13 carries and while Favre threw for a couple he was also intercepted twice for his first multiple interception game of the year. The NINERS lost a close one in Seattle and again Alex Smith looks like he has the makings of the “real deal” but despite their better than average run “D” they won’t stop Warner, Fitz, Q, and Breaston from getting theirs.

PICK: CARDNALS. A win here by Zona will lock up the division title.

Last Week: 1 – 4 – 0
YTD: 21 – 30 – 2

This week MAX the wonder cat is making the picks – can’t hurt
